From the Undergrads

From Alumni Relationship Chairman Shea Grourke:

Dear Brothers, I hope you are all safe and well. It is my pleasure to share information on behalf of the brotherhood and keep brothers connected from different decades. We would love to connect with you when you are in State College or from afar. If you have any questions or would like to meet the brothers, please reach out to my email sjgrourke@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

From Rush Chair, Joseph Shirley:

With the closing of Fall Rush week, our chapter came together and had an extremely successful recruiting period. We extended bids to 19 freshmen and had 100% acceptance. We look forward to further pursuing open recruitment, but for now, we are excited to initiate these True Gentlemen on Friday, February 10th and further advance our chapter. Any suggestions to aid the open recruitment process or Freshman candidates to reach out to would be extremely helpful and appreciated. Feel free to reach out to me at my cell at 610-368-9841.

From EA, Jesse Kolb:

Brothers, it’s a pleasure to have been elected as the new eminent archon of the PA-AZ chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We have been growing rapidly through the past year achieving a lot of our goals recruiting, academically, and philanthropically. I look forward to continuing our progress as we move into a new stage in our chapter’s history. This semester we are looking forward to THON with our sorority partner Alpha Delta Pi and hoping to break back into the top 5 fundraising Greek organizations. Additionally with a record number of freshmen registered for rush this year we are anticipating our largest class yet of future leaders and brothers. Finally, we look forward to prioritizing our alumni brothers as we move back into the ranch at the start of next school year and plan on hosting a variety of alumni events such as a golf outing and events in conjunction with the upcoming football season. I can’t wait to see how the chapter transforms over this next year and hope to see all of you soon. Phi Alpha

From Alumni THON Board Member Brice Boas:

This year, Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) and Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) are partnering to join the fight against pediatric cancer. As a pair, we are committed to fundraising on behalf of THON 2023 to provide outstanding emotional and financial support to the children and families impacted by childhood cancer. It is our hope that, together, we can one day dance in celebration for the kids; for the fight; for the cure.

THON 2022

Introducing Our Families

This year, we are thrilled to be paired with the Samuel Grimm, Charlie Karchner, and McKenna Speed families.

The Samuel Grimm Family: We are honored to THON for our angel, Samuel Grimm, who unfortunately passed away from Neuroblastoma at 3 months old. We have since enjoyed getting to know Samuel’s siblings: Ben (8) and Evie (2).

The Charlie Karchner Family: Charlie (26) has been paired with ADPi for over 15 years. After graduating from Penn State Hazelton in 2019, Charlie has enjoyed being employed as an engineer. However, in his free time, he can be found biking and running!

The McKenna Speed Family: This year, we are excited to welcome the Speeds as the newest edition to our THON family! McKenna (12) loves to sing, cook, and make art. Her younger brother, Caleb (8), enjoys soccer, Legos, and Harry Potter!

Previous Fundraising Efforts: This past September, the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and sisters of Alpha Delta Pi kicked off the fundraising year with a pasta dinner, featuring an array of Italian cuisine dishes.

As Penn State’s football season quickly approached, both organizations were excited to coordinate two ribboning sales. On 10/9 and 10/30, members of ADPI and SAE gathered in the HUB and outside of Yallah Taco to sell pins and ribbons in benefit of THON 2023—both of which were successful fundraisers! In early November, both organizations paired to host a Cheesin’ for Children fundraiser outside of Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s house. While selling grilled cheese sandwiches downtown, both organizations were able to bond, making for a great event!

WE ARE stronger in numbers. Therefore, we need YOUR help to support the fight in our 2023 fundraising efforts against pediatric cancer. Please consider donating here.

As THON quickly approaches in February, the members of ADPi and SAE are excited to continue such fundraising efforts into the 2023 year, while coordinating events with our Four Diamonds families!

From IM Chairman, Donovan Lewis:

Fall 2022 PAAZ brothers fielded a team in two sports, Football and Softball. In football, the team made it to round 2 of 5 in the playoffs, meeting their unfortunate end in a tough 35-7 loss. We did not lose from a lack of unity or effort; the team had struggled at the quarterback position all season proving to be an obstacle grit and grind could not overcome. In softball, brothers battled in a hard-fought season with unbelievable plays made across the diamond. Mathew Yauger and Luke Bass led the infield with John O’Donnell on the mound. Huge hits by JD King and Charles Greenberg made the season one to remember. With the spring semester almost in full swing, the fraternity is optimistic to attempt to compete in basketball, volleyball, and soccer in the upcoming weeks and months.
